Emily, Dna and the boy's are going to be at Dna's school. Hopefully a mentore there knows about this situation and will take the opportunity of having them together to offer them some counsel and some assistance with obtaining parenting classes.
My family is going to a spiritual life retreat put on by Dan's school. I'm pretty psyched, as I haven't been to any retreats, seminars or conferences since Daniel was an only child. [It's going to be very difficult to make sure that Dna nd the boy's don't eat too much junk. There's always so much food at these things. I know the older ladies mean well, but veggies are not part of the plan for our family. It is to difficult to get our bowels regulated after well meaning, but uniformed people start feeding Dna and the boy's]
I didn't want to post anything if I wouldn't be around to moderate comments, so I scheduled a post over at Frugal Hacks for today, "SAHM Jobs". [Can't wait for this riveting post. Do you finally admit that you started the blog to make money, and that you are deliberately controversial in order to do so? Before your blog, you posted all over the net looking at ways to make money. Anyone can google xxxxxxxxxxx and see your desperation] I edited out the name at the suggestion of an anon commenter. Emily has posted that information numerous times, but it quickly identifies her, so I apologize for posting that. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
I'll be back on Friday for FAQ Friday.
Please pray for us, that this may be a time of spiritual growth for both Dan and I. [Those of us who pray, will be praying that something at this retreat knocks some sense into you and Dna and you start to look after those children]
Edited to add the link to Frugal Hacks. When I forst posted this entry, her submission was not up yet. http://frugalhacks.com/ Notice at the end, she says that if you treat the blog like a business you can do well? I'm hoping to all that is Holy that she means this is all fake, aren't you?

I sent a comment through at Frugal Hacks to let them know about Emily. They won't publish my comment I'm sure, but I told them about the pee soaked mattress and the neglect.
ReplyDeletemaby the bible basement skool is going to have an intervention of some sorts .to let her know that what she is doing to the children is wrong. And who knows maby it is a set up for CPS ntervention . Arent retreats usually during the weekend? i know they are here . it will be very intesting to see what hapens with it
ReplyDeleteWhile on the retreat I hope she looks around at the beds they will be sleeping on and how well her boys enjoy a comfortable nights sleep. We know she will not enjoy the food, however Im happy to hear the boys and Dna will get at least 2 days of good meals. Hopefully Dna is stashing cookies and coffee cake in his pockets when she is not looking.
ReplyDeleteNO. Retreats is a loose term and my old evangelical Lutheran church had 'retreats' quite often. For bible college students, this mid to late week thing is normal. The retreat takes the place of classes. Wives/spouses/children are welcome. It's a nice break. As a christian, I've sometimes enjoyed these. Depends on the speaker/s though. Doubt this has anything to do with an intervention. Seriously. But...good that the family gets out for the day for at least 2 days. Prob have babysitting for the kids set up or volunteer basis with the parents for a nursery of sorts. Lunch usually provided. Daytime from around 9 to 4 in the afternoon.
ReplyDeleteIf you want Frugal Hacks to know the way these folks live, you'd be better going to the owner's site Life in a Shoe dot com and seeing if she has an email. Sometimes, when done that way (discreetly), the concern gets noticed better. Just a suggestion.
Anyway, these folks aside, spiritual retreats really are good. Maybe God will convict about the cluttering. You'd be surprised at what topics are preached on. You know...materialism, that sort of thing. Idols...yada yada. Could be something that gives one of them an epiphany.
Anon 7:22,
ReplyDeleteIt looks to me, in his pictures, that Dna keeps an emergency supply of food stashed between his teeth.

Your kids would be happier if you got a job at a mattress store. Or a laundromat!
Please Emily, if you're reading this - please please do a tour of your car next Tuesday. We would have hours of fun scrutinizing how your carseats are installed (that is if you have them in your car).
ReplyDeleteThe thought of what the inside of that car looks like (based on what we know about how she keeps her house) makes my head want to explode.
To the person who thinks this may be a "CPS Intervention."
ReplyDeleteCPS doesn't stage interventions, they just show up at your doorstep.

ReplyDeleteKim from frugal hacks is a very reasonable person. I think she could step in to talk to Emily as someone who Emily might respond to.
ReplyDeleteFolks have tried telling Em to get a private phone; to get her info out of the white pages, since well in the planning stages time of her blog. She planned to go public; she planned/hedged her bets on becoming a popular site to earn money. What she did not plan was for the safety of her family. She has no idea. Anyone can now show up at her doorstep. I google earthed her home, and geez. Emily...Dan... get wise. Or move asap.
ReplyDeleteI left a comment there, too. Also won't be published, but if there is enough negative response, FH probably won't ask her back. Unless they're trying to up their own stats, which is also likely. Maybe the best thing is to ignore all of her other posts entirely and instead send emails directly to the blog owner without clicking on the blog at all.
ReplyDeleteWow I google earthed it too. If I googled the right place, it even has street view. How depressing of a spot bring up children
ReplyDeleteThanks Anon who said...

I love your blog. But just an FYI, I easily found Emilys name and address from searching xxxxxxxxxxx.

I'm going to delete my comment and your original comment. I reposted your comment here, but I x'd out the information.
Even though Emily had this as her email address for a long time, youa re right, it shouldn't be here.
I googled earthed it, and I don't think it really looks all that bad. It looks like a decent brick apartment building. It looks like a clean area to me.
ReplyDeleteI've said it before and I'll say it again...Emily's apartment doesn't look bad. The walls look to be nicely painted, and have nice trim. The bathroom rooms likes the landlord has kept up on it, other then the burn marks in the floor. A lot of the cabinets, doors, and flooring are dated...but they aren't bad.
The only thing that makes that place a shithole is the fact that Emily is a nasty bitch who leaves pissy mattresses, trash, and random shit everywhere.
I've lived in some truly shitty apartments (where you can sit on the rocking toilet and peel the paper of the walls), that is not one of them.
I found a poster for Emily:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.blog.joelx.com/de-motivational-posters/730/
It's the second one down, with Captain Kirk! It describes our Em perfectly.
The food at the retreat has to be better than these pictures she took:

ReplyDeleteI think it looks depressing because there is no green space anywhere outside the building. It looks depressing and dead outside. I agree with you the apartment could be nice, like for a couple or even a family with one child, especially if it were clean and organised.
Just read the post over at FH. I don't know about anyone else but my husband would not be amused by "playing spy" while I mystery shop. LMAO! Maybe if he were....oh, 12!
ReplyDeleteOff topic, but yesterday my favorite plastic serving spoon broke in half. I looked at the two pieces and briefly wondered if I could still use the spoon, since Emily is still using her broken spatula.
ReplyDeleteThen I decided that was an insane idea and promptly threw both pieces in the trash. I have the couple bucks in the bank to replace a serving spoon, and really, it's not the only one I have. Just my favorite.
I wonder if she bought a new one for Christmas. You know they have them at the Dollar Tree.
Yeah, I can't believe that Frugal Hacks is letting her post. Why are people like them and BlogHer supporting her? It makes me so mad!
ReplyDeleteFrugal Hacks posted three comments to her post, all blowing rainbows up Emily's ass.
ReplyDeleteGawd, someone send the looney bitch out on the first crazy train.
This is a bit off today's topic, but I went to Kim from Frugal Hack's blog today and saw her Valentine's Day story.
ReplyDeletehttp://inashoe.com/2010/02/happy-valentines-day/
Hmm..Let's just say that her husband was a *bit* more creative than "allowing" her to clean his DVDs!
Don't bother with Kim from Frugal Hacks. On the front page of her personal blog, she calls out how awesome she thinks Emily is.
ReplyDeleteGood lord.
the in a shoe woman is kind of hateful toward women who don't stay at home with their kids. i do not believe every woman on the planet has to stay home with their children to be a good/great parent. anyway, she's pissed me off in the past. and don't get me started on their meanness about single parents. so, i don't read her stuff. and now that i know she's affiliated with FH, i'll likely stay away from there, too. :( bah.
ReplyDeleteMM
Ugh, I can't believe Kim is supporting Emily. I've read Kim's blog for years and I always thought she had more sense than to support someone who thinks it's perfectly fine and dandy to put her kid to sleep under a crib.
ReplyDeleteI understand sticking with people with a similar life view, but not when they are freaking neglecting their kids.
Ten bucks says she complains about the food when she gets back.
ReplyDeleteJust thought I would let you all know that I really enjoy this blog. Reading Gizmola's comments makes me smile. I do enjoy her wit and wisdom. Have a great day everyone
ReplyDeleteI wrote to frugal hacks a week or so ago... basically Kim wrote back saying that there is nothing wrong with the way Emily lives and everyone is blowing it out of proportion. I described the peed mattresses, sleeping under the crib, no sheets, etc... and she pretty much told me she disagrees. I think I deleted the email, but I will see if I can find it. If I do, I will post it here.
ReplyDeletei recently came across the in a shoe blog. strange people.
ReplyDeletethough they seem to have a higher quality of living-i'll give them that. she is not going to be supportive of the "mattress movement", as their current project is how to make shelves into the walls and then put down some sort of pads (not mattresses) to make them into bunkbeds. 4 high, 2 across, 8 kids sleeping in the wall. while it does seem better than emily's system, still seems odd to me.
they are the ones that feel bedrooms are for sleeping/changing and don't need to be spacious. they do have the main area of their home open with lots of space and is where the family spends their time. i'm guessing that's where emily got her thoughts from.
but as a whole, i don't believe i've ever come across a more judgemental blogger. i guess that's what to expect with this whole "fundie" thing. i'm new to that.
I have a question for all of you. I went to the website about the retreat and it says...
ReplyDelete"with overnight facilities, games, scheduled activities, and times of corporate worship"
What the Heck is corporate worship?
http://www.leithart.com/archives/001229.php
ReplyDeleteHere's a website talking about "corporate worship"
Coming out of lurking. I can't even comment on the state of Emily's home or family. It's overwhelming to me and part of me prays that it's just a joke. But I doubt it.
ReplyDeleteI've started my own challenge on my blog - under $500 per month. (We don't have to pay rent so I figured that would be a fair amount.)
I hope that I can manage well enough to care completely for my family.
Thanks for this blog!
I see all these blogs popping up bragging about "under $_____ per month" and I don't see how it's something to brag about.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. I have no desire to live with my parents (Under $500 per month) or live in squalor (Under $1000 per month).
We live beneath our means, but we also live in a house... with a yard and good schools. My children have warm beds and good food, extracurricular activities, vacations... .
It's not that chalenging to live beneath your means, it's that all our means are different.
Why struggle if you don't have to? You can have nice things AND savings/goals.
Uh oh...brace yourselves! Every time I think, "Emily, you are such a fuckin' snooze!" she manages to pull something out of her ass that is totally, totally alarming.
ReplyDeleteI warned you...as soon as she gets boring she gets out of control really fast.
Her website is worth 11K. Just sell the whole thing and feed your children!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cubestat.com/www.under1000permonth.blogspot.com
I don't know, 6:22. According to that website, my blog is worth $312 billion.
ReplyDeleteI make some damn fine pizza, but I don't see anyone ponying up that kind of cash for my site.
I hope the kids get to chow down on some real food during this "retreat". By the way I was in the bathroom at work today and I roughly measured the walls. Our employee bathroom is the same size as her kids' room. It blows my mind. It doesn't have stalls either, it's just a room with a toilet, sink, and a little shelf for our womanly items/magazines.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the numbers for my site were WAY off, too. I do NOT make $50+ in ad revenue per day. I have made more like $50 since I put ads on my site back in November.
ReplyDeleteI just don't understand how she can be making this much money from her blog. Others here say they make nowhere near the amount she has calculated she has.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 9:04, I don't think she has made that much. I just don't. If you look at her Alexa rankings and other stats, she's just not that big.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I read one of Emily’s Blogs I keep going back to a line in my favorite movie “Gone with the Wind” Rhett tells Scarlett “ A cat is a better mother than you” this is when he takes Bonnie to England. I feel that way about Emily, the Wackadoodle.
ReplyDeleteI want to point out something about her beloved crock-pot. It is broken, in a true crock-pot there is a ceramic pot inside not metal. Her frugalness is just not there. Secondly, her looks food terrible. If I was starving I don’t know if I would eat it.
Her fascination with the Third World comes from the two weeks that she spent in Haiti. I emailed her about it, before I figured out that she was a total wackadoodle or what my Husband (perinat) calls a FUS (fat ugly and stupid). She went on and on about it. I spent two years in the Peace Corp as a nurse in Africa and I shared my experience with her about it. How Mothers in Tanzania would do anything to improve the lives of their children: medical care, take food help, schooling and when they earned extra money they invested in their children. She went into this long diatroid about her plan for homesteading. Then I emailed her back asked if she or Dan ever did any farming. Also explained that putting your children current needs on hold for a dream is a recipe for disaster. She never wrote back.
I tried again giving her some tips on truly being frugal. We earn more in one year that she and Dan the preacher man will see in many years, I am more frugal that she will ever be. The snippy little email I got back has too much. I wish I would have saved it. I really figured that she would go away. Oh no, she is here to milk her drama to the max $$$$.
She is like majority of my fundie patients, they breed like rabbits and think that accepting government help is going against Jesus or Gods will. I can never figure that out, being Jewish. This brings me back to the story about the guy in the flood. If you don’t know it, I will tell you later. But the moral to the story is use the brain and common sense that he/she gave you to make your decisions, don’t leave it up to signs because you don’t know what they are. Maybe during her and Dan, the preacher man retreat someone will knock some sense into their heads that they live in a one bedroom apartment, kids’ bedroom is a laundry room and that food stamps is a gift from God or Jesus. Or remove her head from her A$$.
I have a crock pot with removable crock and the inside (where the heat originates) is metal. Looks as if she takes out the crock and just uses the heating element to cook. Her does look quite filthy though and that would drive me nuts! annie
ReplyDeleteWHAT? If you just use the heating element, you're not getting the energy savings of the thermal mass of the crock in the crock pot. Also, the electrified part is really hard to wash.
ReplyDeleteO.M.G.
okay, I actually came to say two things.
1) isn't the In a Shoe lady married to someone who works for Vision Forum? and
2) she is actually encouraging people to go say nice things about Emily to drown us out.
Just looked over at the In a shoe lady's blog about Em's blog. She says it offends many of our modern American sensabilities. And then a few commenters say how great her blog is and how they can't understand what there is to critize on her blog, how wonderful she is... etx......
ReplyDeleteIs Em going back and editting her blogs? Or are there really that many crazy people out there?
I read a lot of In the Shoe's blog. She and Emily are two peas in a pod. She also has a gigantic brood of children, some of whom don't have beds (in one post she said until those naval foldup beds are made, some kids sleep every night on a couch in the living room). Each child has one box only of personal items.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't bother writing to Kim to complain about Emily. If anything, I expect that Kim would protect Emily to the nines, because criticizing her would be condemning her own lifestyle (although it might be a little cleaner).
And yes, they are BIG Vision Forum people. They also publish the purity novels the Duggar girls claim to be the best books around.
Wow, I just spent a few minutes (ok an hour) on the In the shoe blog, and I'm amazed. And not in a good way. I thought the mommy wars were bad .... but now I know the Christian mommy wars are even worse. I've never seen such judgmental stuff before! Christians like that always amaze me. (Again, not in a good way.)
ReplyDeleteBecause I feel I need to purge my mind of all that I just took in, and do a good dead to counteract it.... I'm making my 2nd donation to Planned Parenthood. I thought I'd just do it for Emily, but I guess PP has Kim to thank for this one.
:) Lisa
I sent her a comment the other day (that she didn't post) after the whole "re-decorate my boys hovel" campaign in response to all the people offering to BUY and ship mattresses to her house for the boys.
ReplyDeleteI asked her to consider the possibility that perhaps it was "God's plan" for mattresses to be provided to her by "His" use of random people on the interwebs. Kind of like the guy in the flood story. People can do the work on God through their kind acts, etc.
And this is coming from an agnostic/borderline atheist. She's such a prideful and crazy bitch.
Re: crock pot. I believe Emily places pan inside the crock pot metal liner, not cooking directly on the metal part. It can be done but is not efficient (not sure about the safety part). her oven would be more energy efficient in the long run. {as an aside on crock pots...I was incredibly happy to learn I can line the ceramic dish with tin foil making clean up ever so easy!). annie
ReplyDeleteAfter much thought and research on what could possibly cause a parent to treat their children like the main subject of this blog does I have found one mental illness that COULD be a possible answer Münchausen syndrome by proxy... in short its the need to fabricate illness or conditions to bring themselves attention... Just a thought
ReplyDeleteThe child actually had an illness, so she didn't fabricate the illness. And even though I think something in her home caused the illness such as her food, the dirty environment, or lack of her realizing he was sick and letting it go on too long, I don't think she actually tried to make him sick.
ReplyDeleteHer problem, I think, is that she has one goal in mind which is to live under a certain income and save up the rest to buy a home or yurt or whatever. But she doesn't realize that she should not be putting off the boys comfort now in order to have a home or yurt or whatever later on. She needs to make sure that her children are warm, fed, clean, and comfortable NOW and then put the extra into savings. If they can afford a satelite radio then they can afford a comfortable bed and sheets.
Munchausen's, now called Factitious disorder, can occur when a child is actually sick. Usually, a parent will demand unnecessary tests or jump whenever a doctor suggests a procedure, like surgery, that may be an option but not the only one. Some parents do, however, force their children to drink poison or fabricate their illnesses entirely. The combination of the randomness of the antifreeze idea on top of how many hits her blog started to get did make me suspicious (antifreeze would have metabolized out of Dan's system by the time she took him to the hospital), but there is no way to know. I think it's a bad idea to dx people online because there is so much context you miss. It is really nearly impossible to diagnose people via the internet. I understand suspicion, but Emily and Dan have been "diagnosed" with everything from depression to Asperger's to varoius personality disorders, etc. After awhile, it all runs together and gets a little annoying. (Not talking about the Factitious disorder specifically; just the diagnosing in general.)
ReplyDelete(Oh, PS, it would be relatively easy to fabricate a child's illness via a blog, so we don't really know for sure that Dan was actually sick. It's been done before I think that's unlikely, though, given some other clues. And I'm getting my info from my classes from my BS in Family Psychology and my Master's in Counseling program, so it's not just looking up random internet articles.)
ReplyDeleteBack about 20 years ago my niece was sick all the time when she was young - and, if I remember correctly, she ended up in the hospital at least once, maybe twice (I was getting the story long distance) in a coma. THey eventually determined she had all kinds of allergies - I don't remember the details but I know they had to pull out all the carpets, etc to get rid of the triggers. She had issues until she got older and ended up having to take steroids and be on some sort of inhaler, etc. for many years. Hearing about little dna brought that to mind....
ReplyDeleteWow, I left a very respectful comment on Kim's site explaining why some people have a problem with Emily. It was deleted. Better to bury our heads in sand, I guess...
ReplyDeleteActually, I just got an email from Kim and she says that she'll repost my comment. Nevermind.
ReplyDelete
